Persephone No More

Persephone No More

A Poem by Kent Smotherman
"

I wrote this for my now-wife, about 2 weeks after we had met.

"
Throughout your life you have seen
In your soul's mirror
The image of Persephone within yourself
Sexuality repressed, passion stilled
Continuously have you traveled between
Such mixed emotions
Experiencing none fully
Fleeting and surreal
Searching for your true self
In seas of both happiness and sadness
Repeating and replete
With no destination in sight
Only the endless journey
With no one to share
Until our journeys met
So unlikely, so fated
Duality alone, together we are one
Love now fully known
In the face of the deepest despair
We are so much more than ourselves
To break the cycles
Of our lives before
To grow without bound
To know without doubt
To love without limit.

Wonderful poem! So many of us women relate to the story of Persephone(I certainly do if you couldn't tell! ha). Sincerely though, you have captured it in this poem, good job :)

I really like this poem. It has a lot of emotions and the images are vivid, and the Greek Persephone myth is grand in that it is inspired here. Good job and keep writing. :)
