What's On In London

What's On In London

A Poem by Twilight

What's on in London?

where should I begin?

Crime, tension and political spin!

Overcrowding and overspending,

is there hope,

for a city so lived in?

Yet there seems to be,

a light on the horizon,

from the visual arts,

and literary wisdom,

Retro stores,

vintage magazines,

we look  to the past,

to sake our dreams.

Wow. This could apply anywhere. Since London is a particularly well known city, I think the use of it really makes the piece stand out. Great observation on the retro and the vintage. I've often wondered if reviving the past in so many venues wasn't at least in part because people were getting pretty frustrated with the present. Your piece really sums up quite well with very well chosen words, thoughts, and points.
I enjoyed this much. Very nice write!

I like this Julian but I'm not sure about the word 'sake' on the last line which may confuse the reader. Never a dull moment in London. Wonderful poem about an inspiring city.

I'd love to visit London one day.
I enjoy this poem because it gave me a little glimpse of the historical city from an insider.
Wonderful write. :)

This is a really good read. I like the simplicity of words, yet the message is so clear and strong. The last stanza was my favorite saying we must look to the past for the sake of our dreams. Almost saying like what is going in the world today is not really going to help us further such visionary and artistic goals. Great job!

I like how the first half of this is almost sad but the second shows that there is hope. This poem could apply to almost any big city. I'm about to move from a smaller city to a larger one so it makes me think about what I could be in store for. I also agree with Anne Elise on the word 'sake' in the last line, perhaps another word would work better? Great write, as always I enjoy reading your work!

This is such a timely, stirring write of the world at stake... what is and what is coming... Can we reach back and revive that which is nearly lost to us? Is it possible? Excellent, hopeful words...

Interesting. The three-line stanzas are lamenting, and the four-line ones are hopeful. Makes the difference between the two sections more obvious. I like it, though I'm unsure if you meant 'sate' rather than 'sake' on the last line. A fascinating view on London.
