Nature's Friend

Nature's Friend

A Story by Twilight
"

I vaguely remember starting this story, at about the same time as starting "The Survivalist" (also on here).

"

Ethan Jones had always been brought up to be a "survivor",  in his home town of Carrington. However, unlike his many brothers, Ethan failed to match their toughness or standing in the local community. Indeed, his stern Father never forgave him for this. Then again, nature may have been the real loser, if Ethan had remained amongst his kin.

Even as a child, Ethan never fitted in. He just didn't take to the rough ways of riding, climbing or shooting. Instead, he was more of a thinker. However, his father saw him as a mere dreamer. No real use could be found for poor Ethan, either by his father or any of the locals. But, all this was to change.

At home, Ethan was taught what his parents thought was important. Even so, anything which was not related in some way to the community's survival, was more or less ignored. However, even at the age of eight, young Ethan's zest for knowledge was such, that he started to ask some awkward questions. The first of which perhaps, was simply, "Why am I here?"
