On purpose, I kept an old-fashioned kind of feel for this poem. It is about a man's yearning for his lover, after she has departed from this realm. Perhaps it is also a homage to love.
But How Could Anyone Take The Place,
Of Such Great Beauty,
And Endless Grace?
I Still Remember,
Her Beauteous Face,
That Tender Body,
And Warm Embrace
Eternal But Blind,
I Always Find,
No Greater Gift,
Than Love Divine.
Beautiful tribute to love mixed with a twinge of sadness. Love that last verse...poetically genius.
very nice job on this your detail descriptions of the loss of love and the longing for what he had make this a epic tale of love.... I do see the Poe influence in this.... overall a very impressive write... fav lines...Her Portrait Hangs,
Any write the has the old feel to it is one that appeals to me! Your message is sad but well told, and your rhyme scheme is very effective.
I like this!
Longing, hope and love....the reader experiences the full spectrum of emotions in this delightful poem. thank you for entering my contest. wonderful poem.
Aw, this made my heart sigh. I can't imagine losing the person i love, the thought of it is scary enough. I think you did a great job of describing the emotions, and the longing that we all feel when we lose someone. ~ Nix
Awww this is really very sweet! you've managed to capture the love he still feels for her, and the depth of sorrow he feels. So too have you managed to show that while he pines for another love, he feels that no one can compare with his Gwenivere, and so, he has an air of almost hopelessness.
Not as soppy as most of the love poems I read. It has more... complexity and a timeless grace. Chivalry, yes, but in some ways, more than that.
As a history geek, I'm very familiar with medieval literature, so though you have given it that sort of feel, in a way, it doesn't quite fit the mold of medieval.
