Poetic Genesis

Poetic Genesis

A Poem by Twilight
"

Written with Martiya's new group and contest, in mind. It's about, how I started enjoying to write

"
At around the age of eight,
It was the dawn of my writing age,
From that first dawning awareness,
I knew that writers should not be careless,

And so it was that my quest began,
But had to learn words,
Before even reaching for the pen,
Lest it prove beyond my ken,

So young I was,
When thinking that way,
Seven or eight,
Give or take a day,

My starting points I chose,
Embrace every phrase which passed my nose!,
From poster displays to TV plays,

How I remember those,
Cherished halcyon days,
Promotional dialogue and billboard displays,

Sid James laughing,
At the innuendo he displayed,
Introduced me to the lewd,
Such halcyon days,

Comics of different sorts,
Were my paving stones to novels,
To read and enjoy,
I was such a studious boy!,

And then,
Only then,
Was I confident,
With pencil and pen...✍️

I always find it interesting when people began writing as children and carry that all through their lives. Seems like writing has held an important place for you most of your life.

I started writing in the last ten years or so when I took a course on Robert Frost in college. I was inspired by his poetry and started trying to write my own. The more I read of other poets the more interested I became. And the more I wrote the more transformative I found the exercise to be.

It is always nice to learn about other writers’ stories.

This is so innocent, I really like it. I started to write when I was twelve, just silly stories that helped me escape reality. Later on, I understood it as passion and now I just write. It is a part of me.

I learned more about you from this enjoyable poem. Interesting your mention of comic books. I loved comics as a kid and still read them occasionally today. Thank you for sharing your writing.

Oh nice! Started around the same age, producing juvenalia, that is. But had to be pushed in front of audiences at a younger age for declamation of memorised poems. The difference being my disorganised and haphazard method of poeting; although not lacking respect for the written or spoken word, was found much much later to have been challenged by dyslexia and add, before they were even a thing. As for confidence, that came and went… still does.. But, loving this and much appreciative of your sharing this esteemed genesis.

a very interesting and personal poem of the very beginning of your writing; It seems you had the foresight to learn how to become a poet from a very early age…. i was inspired to write at a much later stage in my life….it might have to do with the start of my painting career…ideas began swirling in my brain with the urge to create….and artistic abilities run in my family….thank you for sharing!
