I Am The Twilight Dancer

I Am The Twilight Dancer

A Poem by Twilight Dancer
"

The title is the prelude ... to the answer.

"

I am The Twilight Dancer.

I wake each day to that time and space,

Between night and the dawn of a new day.

Venturing outside, I look up to the heavens

And say Good Morning to my Maker;

Only then can the dance begin.

Crickets, tree frogs, and cicadas provide the music.

Tanagers, wrens, cardinals, and blue birds sing the lyrics with their beautiful sweet song.

The ambiance is set by the fragrance of sweet honeysuckle and gardenia,

Lush green grass glistening with dew is the highly polished dance floor.

The soft, cool, gentle breeze fingers through my auburn tresses,

While caressing my face like cleansing, fresh water.

My mind begins to dance with words, thoughts, and senses;

And creativity becomes my partner.

The music reaches a crescendo,

My mind, soul, and spirit join as one;

As the sun begins to rise over the eastern horizon.

The last dance is called – a waltz;

And I dance more slowly, knowing the dénouement is near.

Not to be gone forever, just for the day;

I am The Twilight Dancer and will dance tomorrow’s morn.

Best part of the day. The clarity of colours before the sun's pastel. Artists can't paint the sounds of awakening this well

Wow my dear friend, this was such a brilliant write. I loved each and every sentence, as you pull me into your world. If I close my eyes tight enough, I can almost see you dancing. What a wonderful though, which you described sp perfectly with your wonderful words and vividly accurate images.

I really loved this, just brought such calmness upon my soul, right now!

The cool, gentle breeze fingers through my auburn tresses,
While caressing my face like cleansing, fresh water.
My mind begins to dance with words, thoughts, and senses;
And creativity becomes my partner.

Once again - excellent!

Thanks TD, I'd have missed this due to time zones.
It's lovely, That pre dawn time is magic to wake to, the crispness of early morning hours and the quite, and paying attention to the symphony coming together is special and something most people either never do or dont do nearly enough, or dont stay quiet enough to appreciate that we are so small such a small part of what puts together this world. But to be alone at those hours and let the sounds of life provide the music and be attentive toward them and literally waltz until the sounds of life blur together on a polished dance floor of dew, thats living, thats knowing you in sync with life.......... I agree with the comment on this was a perfect picture for a person who might be blind, but I think also for a person who might be deaf,,, and if a person was blind and deaf, what have they but to feel cool breezes and dew and soft grasses and their hair? This is beautiful and you created the scene perfectly.

First stanza puzzles me surely twilight lies between the end of the day and nightfall
Apart from that I enjoyed the concept of dancing to natures tunes No reason I suppose for a twilight dancer not to greet the dawn also.
you aroused memories of a client of mine when I was a social worker an extremely intelligent and giftedstudent who cracked from overwork and dropped out of college. He called himself moon dancer and when ina lucid period was an extremely interesting conversationalist but every now and then retreated inside his own fantasy world and communicated by dancing

First off the images are lovely: light and shadow play as sprites and that special time of day has found an apt metaphor with dance. I enjoyed the tumbling list of creatures and birds and the symbiosis of waltzing and the coming of dawn.
That said, I feel as though you might have used fewer adjectives and had greater impact (part of the show don't tell rule).
For instance: birds sing the lyrics with their beautiful sweet song.
The ambiance is set by the fragrance of sweet honeysuckle and gardenia.."
You have sweet twice where you didn't need to use it at all.
Likewise with "soft, cool, gentle breeze fingers.." I believe less would have been more. Just some thoughts.
Thanks for sharing your work with us.

The beauty you created with words can be felt by the blind.
Poetry so true to your feelings has given me a chance
to dance with you. As we waltzed the swaying was delightful.
I am sure you know how much the words and music took
me with you and gave me joy.
