Lament

Lament

A Poem by Margo Seuss

They catch themselves in their sessions of depression,

Swallowing their pills; giving away their possessions.

The bridges are high and the fall has no end.

Their days continue; their hearts never mend.

Tears turn to blood and the stains leave their mark,

Consuming the lights and possessing the dark.

Their dreams are riddled with flashes of death,

They suck back a sigh

And breathe their last

breath.

This is dark and genius. I really like this piece, Margo. You are able to catch suicidal thinking in short detail and still express it in a massive way. Whether it be depression or another reason the jumper jumped, doesn't matter, and you made sure to link it to darkness.

Bravo dear poet! :)

I really like the buildup and last line cutoff, ends your flow in motion. Lets it touch deep. Awesome

This is such a great capture of that desperation that is felt by those with a death wish. Your choice of WORDS is masterful. Every one of them is the best choice for every great line. I am terrifically impressed of the way this flows and you truly hit the mark! Very good write.

I like this succinct nature of this and the quick glimpses/snapshots or sketches of the symptoms of depression without getting into a narrative or being too descriptive. I think getting away from any pronouns would be a good choice here> no "They" in the beginning or "their," to make it even more stark. Like a still life, ironically. It will create a more mysterious feel and a question of who is speaking, why is this being said... it will be that much more ominous. And the picture is nice, maybe move it after the poem.

great read, thanks

this is incredible, Margo! Your pen reached very depths
inside one's psyche spiraling down to the utter despair,
where one feels that life has just sucked
them dry. they can no longer be repaired, their hopes
Just illusions...

Finding poems like this reminds me of how much work I need on crafting my own. It's genius, masterfully told, and simply scatters emotion onto the page to a degree that makes me rather jealous. :)
