A Mask Is....

This is my favorite Poem I have written, I wrote this my Sophomore year of High School and have sense reworked it multiple times.

A Mask Is…

 

A mask is not a thing that hides your face,

A mask is a state of mind, an attitude, a place.

Not a public display of what you believe in,

No, a mask overshadows the true feelings within.

So don’t take a mask so literally, ‘cause you don’t know,

The personality the mask doesn’t wish to show.

While some masks give people acceptance,

Other masks make people exceptions.

A mask may be used to repel,

Or a mask may be used to excel.

A veil, a façade, a disguise, a front that has been made,

But when is it time for us to end this masquerade?

And what will happen when the mask is broken down?

And the person within is left unbound?

To make known, to divulge, to disclose,

Take the person within, and to everyone, expose.

Will they accept?

Or will they reject?

No matter what the outcome, I think now we are all ready for the task,

It is time to take off the mask.
