My Friend Shame

My Friend Shame

A Poem by Whitney
"

Just a little something that was on my mind. Nothing great.

"

On the day of my worst guilt
She came to me, and love was built

This girl, she seems to have regrets
But she feels lucky that we've met

For I was soon to make a choice
Before I heard her urgent voice

She breathed a message in my ear
Oh, how it seems so loud and clear

Her soul, it was destroyed by hate
But she tells me "It's not too late."

For me to have a life of joy
Take all my blessings, and not be coy

I ask: "Sweet girl, what is your name?"
And she replies: "They call me Shame."

She says she's traveled long and far
That she is like my guiding star

To help me through my time of need
When I am lost, to take her lead

She says she's been through this before
But she was found upon on the floor

And then the truth began to spread
Shame, my friend; has long been dead
