Jewel

Jewel

A Poem by Benjamin L. Weekly

Like a gem in a stony field
Hair flowing like a heavenly gift
Wanted to be her strength, her shield
Instead I'm stuck alone, adrift

Picked her favorite flower today
Plucked a rainbow for a tiara
Hoping her presence is here to stay
Wanting to bask in her warm aura

Eyes containing the constellations
When I fill her ears with whispered praise
A screaming heart, a lamentation
Because her heart with another lays

OOF, what a punch in the STOMACH. Very romantic, Tiger, but from beginning to end you can see it is covered in a cowl of despair. Don't tell me this happened to you, otherwise I offer my condolences. It appears you've captured an essential part of love in this poem that I don't see often. At least, not one where you can tell the era of it's creation due to bad spelling, dramatic exaggeration, or whiney complaining. This poem actually offers to me an image of a romantic renaissance scene, changed to a man with flaring cuffs on his wrists, weeping by a river. Valentine's day certainly isn't just for the light of heart. I hate star ratings, but I must indulge every once in a while for the sake of credit.
