Things Were Different

Things Were Different

A Poem by Aislinn Gryffin ((Ashes))

i live in a city that has only three

colors: dust and rust and green

metal skeletons rise high

against a rusty sky

while we live in a community

below

i wonder what they lived like

i find books and photos

but i still don't understand

the words speak of a thing

called love

that people married for

but we marry to keep our race

alive

things were different back then

they didn't struggle

just to survive

i wonder if they knew

how lucky they were

back when

things were different
