StitchesA Poem by Aislinn Gryffin ((Ashes))Stitches... Hold her together Yet bind her down. Keep her from falling apart Or making a sound. They piece her together And hold together her heart. It can't escape the binds Or it'll be torn apart. They keep her alive But hold her back. Her heart is torn Like that old Kodak. The picture worn and faded That she still keeps Under her bed and In her dreams when she sleeps. Stitches criss-cross Over the image of his face As she stares silently Into starry space. Pale white puckered scars, Ugly and bold, Still tell the story of her life, The unbearable cold. Stitches hold the pieces together But she's coming apart at the seams. She's lost everything she holds dear And now she's losing her dreams. You can't reach for dreams If you can't take a chance. Live a little, Have that dance. But she's stitched together And if she tries to start She'll rip them out And tear apart.
