I know a girl...

I know a girl...

A Poem by Aislinn Gryffin ((Ashes))

I know a girl with a pretty face.

I know a girl with a ready smile.

Her life seems perfect but that's not the case

As you'd know if you talked to her for a while.

Her arms and legs bear the signs

Of endless abuse day and night...

Notice the scars and notice the lines

That are proof of her daily fight.

And there are bruises she can't ever show

For fear of what worse things her stepmom will do...

But if you saw them, you would know

Just how much pain she goes through.

That pretty girl with the pretty face

Has hopes and dreams just like me and you.

How she longs for a better place

And a chance for her to start anew.

She wants a new life,

She wants a new name...

She's not looking for strife

She's not looking for fame.

She only wants a decent chance

To be a kid, to be a teen...

To have fun, to taste romance

And not have to worry that her cuts will be seen.

I know a girl with a pretty face

And i see the longing in her eyes...

i know she wishes each night for a better place

Where she won't be hit if someone asks why she cries.

A place where she is safe and sound

And her story can be heard.

A place where no pain can be found

And no abuse has occurred.

Often i wonder how she endures the pain

And how she is always glad...

Somehow she doesn't go insane

And if she doesn't think on it, she isn't sad.

Somehow she dwells on just the good

And seems to completely forget the bad.

But i know she'd change things if she could

And she'd have the life she wishes she had.

That pretty girl with the pretty face

Is hurting inside and out...

She desperately needs a warm embrace

And someone to listen to what her life is about.

Any way i can help her I will

But i know more like her are there...

I do my best to help her but still

Many more have no one to care.

Do you know a girl with a story like hers???

Are you willing to help and reach out???

Or will you wait till her vision blurs

And pretend not to hear her shout???

I love this poem. I'm so going to favorite it and put it in my library =) The only thing I didn't really like was that some of your I's you didn't capitalize. Other than that, it was amazing and inspiring and I know a girl who was in a situation similar to this but she had a lot of people to help her and she eventually moved in with her grandmother, I think.

this was such a heart wrenching poem. it made me want to cry. my mother was standing next to me and staring as if i'd gone crazy. but this was seriously wicked. It made me think of someone i know who used to be in a situation like this. thankfully she escaped. great write!
