Ophelia's Prospects

Ophelia's Prospects

A Poem by Tristan

In mind of summer fields and garments of lilies
worn, stroking like gossamer and
pressing pale, wan and tender and
bringing blush to her cheeks like rising streaks
of scarlet across the sky.

Ribboned gaze of sunshine's rays
chasing the coquettish roses who
lift their leaves and sway on stems;
her own limber legs loose
- folded - far - running free with arms held
above to catch hold on to doves and fly
forth with.

Love's regret and solace of sickness
too reaps its tender bloom upon her heart,
and thrown back and forth in
heartbreak's hale, she seeks to seal death's kiss.

So-

Perpetrator of opportunity arisen with willow's branch,
clambered over brook and up to bough
to spread weight, full framed grace,
fingers trembling like rye in the wind toward
the sun whose embrace could kill,
and in fate's tumbling turn, the cradle
creaks and collapses, letting her loose
and down she falls, hair free from grips and
now in the rivulet her body lays.
