I Want To Know

I Want To Know

A Poem by Tricia Mc

I want to know what you ache for, what you long for
I want to know if you are willing to look like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow
If you have been opened by life's trials and betrayals
I want to know if you can sit in pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it
I want to know if you can dance with wildness, to let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers & toes
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself
I want to know if you can see beauty even when it's not obvious, even when it's smudged and tarnished
I want to know if you can live with failure and still stand up proud and try again
I want to know if you can suffer grief and despair weary & bruised to the bone, but still look to the future with hope and determination
I want to know if you will stand in the fire with me and not shrink back
I want to know what sustains you when all else falls away

really poignant poem. you could replace "long" with "yearn" or add "yearn". doesn't feel finished. add some imagery to make metaphors for the narrator's pain.
