Pandora's Box

Pandora's Box

A Poem by Treo LeGigeo
"

When Pandora let out the evils of the world, she managed to close the lid just before the last evil escaped: foresight.

"
At first I loathed that woman,
Pandora, who released the evils,
Into the world we live in,
And destroyed the human race.

But then I reconsidered,
For she had kept trapped the evil,
Of foresight, and had given us,
Hope.

The light in the darkness,
The hero in war,
The one who nursed us from birth,
Hope.

Like a glow in the fog,
Like a numb in the pain,
It is the silver lining on the cloud,
Hope.

Hope, happiness, haven,
We owe it all to the woman,
Who let out all the horrors, except one,
And became both mankind's villain, and hero.

Author's Note

Treo LeGigeo
There are several different versions of the myth of Pandora's Box, this poem is based on the one which states that Pandora just managed to put the lid back on and stop the very last evil from escaping. That evil that she managed to trap was foresight, and if foresight had been released into the world, then everyone would know exactly what evils would befall them ever day, and there would be no hope.
