I Once Was Beautiful

I Once Was Beautiful

A Poem by Treo LeGigeo
"

Once...

"

Time, ‘tis he who allows the flowers grow,
Then throws them away as dust on the ground,
Time, ‘tis he who lets beauty come and go,
When he spins and whirls the seasons around.

He changes the living things in the world,
Steals away from us our looks, our beauty,
Leaving only ancient ruins unfurled,
Though he is doing naught but his duty,

He is no villain, no not in the least,

Only he compels us to learn and grow,

With age comes wisdom, like sun in the East,

He will teach us all we will ever know.

I remember yes, remember I do,

Of a time when my mind was still young,

When I laughed and played in the water blue,

And each and everyday I danced and sung.

I do not resent that he took my youth,

Otherwise I’d be forever a child,

I’d rather be old, and know of truth,
Than live ignorant, juvenile, and wild.

But indeed, for this I have paid a price,

Now my air, my energy has faded,

But no, this exchange has no major vice,

For never will I ever feel jaded.

Now I am aged and may seem pitiful,
But I tell you, I once was beautiful.

Beautifully written and I love the rhymes, I like rhymes a lot, making the whole poem flows so well! I love the ending so much, and i love it when you said ' I once was beautiful', age, years pass by as we grow old... A thoughtful poem! Once again, i love the beauty in your words!
Amazing job!

Beautifully writing and express thoughts
I often hear my friends tell other friends you look more beautiful
So age is a different kind of unique beauty
we just get better with age
More beautiful and more refined
Love the flow and rhyming
Excellent write

I really like this rhyming style, as for the poem I just loved it... Beauty will always shine in the sparkle of the eye, beauty will always remain in the heart and soul
beautifully written

Age, what has age ever done for me, but give me aching limbs and wrinkled skin, age, what has age left me with, but distant memories of happy times, age, what will you now do for me, but loan me a casket in the ground. I was at no time Beautiful. Enjoyed your poem.

To me age has it's own beauty and perhaps it really is more beautiful then youth. I like this.
