In Which Ross Attempts To Invade Ari’s Mind (And Fails Miserably)
September 14th, 2048 (still, mind you) 8 : 4 7 A M

When Ari came back, Ross was sitting up again, resolutely staring at the door, as though willing it to open.

“I’m bored,” he announced rather loudly.

“So I see,” she responded dryly. “I suppose you’re willing the door to open with your Amazing Ross Mind Powers?” she asked sarcastically.

“Yes,” he responded, not paying attention to the sarcasm. “It won’t open. Someone’s blocked it.”

Ari stared in disbelief at Ross. He smirked. “it is just another trick to the Amazing Ross Mind Powers.” He cleared his throat experimentally. “As I said,” he said again, loudly again. “I’m dead bored, and I want out of this room.”

“Accommadations aren’t up to your standards?” she asked dryly.

“Not at all,” he replied. “This is boring, and I’d like a nice cup of hot chocolate, some company, a book to read…” He trailed off.

“Anything else I can get for Your Majesty?” she queried, still sarcastically.

“Hmmmm,” said Ross, thinking about it. “I dunno, world peace, a good life, nobody poking into my mind all the time, a date with Emily….” He broke off, then continued. “Actually, I’d like to get rid of the super telekineses powers once and for all, and maybe turn back time so my m—my mom was still alive, and so the Gods did not know and weren’t chasing after me all the time. I’d also like to end the Game, and maybe contribute to the well – being of cats everywhere.”

“I can probably get you out of the room, though we’d probably have to sedate or restrain you so you won’t try any escape attempts,” offered Ari.

“But that is half the fun!” protested Ross.

“Oh, shut up. D’you want out or not?”

“Of course I want out, you idiotic hag.” Snarled Ross suddenly. Ari reeled back slightly, disturbed by the sudden and abrupt change in his demeanor. “How do I open the damn door?”

“Language, Ross,” said Ari rather stupidly as she was suddenly very aware of Ross in her mind. She could tell that he was digging through her recent thoughts, and a bead of sweat formed on his face as he attempted to delve deeper into her very existence. She did not know how to fight him, so she just sat very quietly on her stool and waited for him to get out.

Finally he exited her thoughts, retreating rather painfully. As she felt his presence dissipate, a fierce headache erupted in her mind, and she buried her head in her hands, crying out from the pain. She sat like that for a few minutes, and Ross said nothing to escape the silence. “Never,” she whispered when the pain subsided. “do that again.”

Ross smirked rather evilly. “And what are you going to do to stop me, little witch?”

Two can play at that game. “Oh, there are lots of things I can do, Ross Huron, to make sure you never breach the walls of my mind again. The easiest, of course, would be to request a change in guard, or get some mental expert from the Gods to help me. Then again, I could always cut off your food supply –“ Her fingers hovered over the IV switch that was feeding nutrition into Ross’s body. “—or your blood supply –“ hovering over another switch now, this one projecting something bright red into Ross’s vein in his shoulder. “—yes, Ross Huron, there are a thousand and one ways to make sure you never do that again.”

Ross shivered slightly, not to be escaped by the notice of Ari. “Liar,” he breathed quietly.

“And how do you know?” she asked cruelly.

“Empath,” he said simply. But he was the liar in the room – every single word she had said she really meant. And that was what Ross was afraid of.

“Yeah, Ross, whatever you say.”

“I suppose you’d say no if I asked you to get me some hot chocolate, or maybe pass me a couple of the books you brought with you?” he asked, forcing his voice back into a calmer state.

“That would be correct,” muttered Ari.

“Empathy,” muttered Ross back to himself, almost cursing himself.

He rolled over and fell asleep again, wondering if he would ever get tired of sleeping.

Er... showing the darker side of both Ari and Ross.
It's a bit odd, to tell the truth.
