In Which Ross Huron Reflects
September 10th, 2048 (Remember, there’s a lot of stuff happening in between these times that you’re not seeing. Mostly just casual banter between Ross and Ari. If they’re ever having a bad day, I suppose I can include those bits.)

Ari was asleep. Her chest rose and fell in a steady beat, her mouth open and her hand still at her handheld computer.

Ross was observing her carefully. The scarlet jacket she wore fell causally over her shoulders, barely revealing the orange t – shirt beneath it. Her black hair is wavy, her glasses are perched on the edge of her nose, almost falling off. Her eyes are closed, and her skin is pale. She’s wearing jeans, black as her hair. And she’s asleep.

Ross reflects for a moment that he could escape now, with her asleep on her watch and the door open. He’s not as weak as he’s been pretending, and the blood loss he’s already recovered from. But pain still courses through his body every time he tries to move, but he can handle the pain.

He tell himself that he needs to know more, but the real reason he’s staying behind is because he can’t let his actions kill another person.

Because if Ari fails, then she’s dead.

The Gods would kill her.
And he doesn't want any more blood on his hands.

About
I'm a convoluted trekkie who spends too much time procrastinating. I can see the Northern Lights from my house in the winter and I've memorized startlingly large portions of King Henry IV, part one. more..
