Vacation

Vacation

A Poem by Soitgoes
"

Early draught

"
I went drinking,
to take a holiday from thinking.
For three lost years I sought,
That which no amount of alcohol
could have bought.
A safety net of cylinders and bottles
A panicked desire for a further swallow
A guilty nightcap
That we silently unscrew
Dreading the morning and the night too
I've broke up with my best friend,
Its time we mixed with a different blend
Something like yearning, somewhat lost
A fine life dutifully squandered
At what cost
A fraction of me is missing,
the others emit a sort of hissing,
Magnificent in my sobriety
My useless thirst
ridicules my piety
Now? Now the hangover of life decends
with no short term ways to make amends
Ohh, to be childish once more
minus panic, minus sorrow, minus drink,
tomorrow?

While experiencing an immense hurt it will appear to have no end. That is when we may long for a certain time in our life where we felt no ache and sorrow as whilst we were children, safe and sound, loved and with no larger struggles. We attempt to bring back that feeling by means of alcohol as it makes us forget our pains and in most cases, it makes us happy too, but that's only to last for a short while. Hereafter comes the hangover, the sneaky headaches, just another hurt to go through all the same! and everything you wanted to forget is still intact within memory.. Don't intoxicate yourself by any means to forget the past, it will only have you remain there. Good one.

Thank you for your words.
When you break with the person who was the closest, a part of you is lost forever. Of course, over time every wound heals, but some voids remain, never to be fulfilled. I can relate to most part of your poems, although the reason I broke up with my close friend is completely a different context.

I hope you gather courage and start to look out for a friend, or more so, get everything off your chest through words or by talking with some one you are close to (other than the friend). take care and hugs :)
