Supercilious

Supercilious

A Poem by Blotter

I remember the words

of the generations that preceded me,

and my utter devotion

to their form.

As I took to writing

I worked to distance myself

from the words

of contemporaries.

I struggled to follow the greats,

while eluding the grasp of the others

seeking the same

and felt smug in comparison.

Now I see new writers,

taking on the old ideas,

and i hope

arrogance isn't infectious.
