The Long Open Road

The Long Open Road

A Poem by Travie
"

This is a poem I wrote while driving on the highway.

"
I'm out here on this highway,
The blistering sun in my face,
Windows down and music turned up,
The only place I truly feel free.

A long stretch of open road,
Full of long lost memories,
And all I see behind me,
Is a town I am leaving behind.

It's hard for me to say goodbye,
To a place I've known for so long,
My family and friends all know,
That I cannot stay in one place any longer.

As I drive in a straight line,
Through this open country,
I'm getting closer and closer
To a place I call my new beginning.

That's a really cool scene you've described it works as a metaphor too...

You did a good job with the imagery of the wind and the freedom. This is a poem that everyone can identify with and recall with great delight. Thank you for sharing it. :)

I understand this poem. I left home many times. Funny part after 6 states and three countries. I ended 10 miles from where I was born. Good to have a open road and a new place to rebirth. No weakness in the excellent poetry.

I can identify with the wanderer in this work. I've always loved being on the road, even after four years as a trucker, I still enjoy getting behind the wheel and getting out on the freeway. Nice poem.

In order for us to grow and evolve, we have to leave our comfort zones and see what lies at the very edge. Taking the leap to the next ledge, we suddenly discover that we can.

Change is scary. Sometimes we are used to our daily routines and when change comes we become afraid. Yet,as you stated we all should start new.Become independent and make new memories...... lovely poem:)
