Ode to Roses

Ode to Roses

A Poem by Kait
"

'Valentine's Day is a curious place'

"

Velvet petals shaken from their stems,

Curled up and waiting helplessly on chilled cement,

their veins absorb the thumping beat

of tramping feet as they absent mindlessly

scurry by.

‘Valentine’s Day is a curious place.’

Radiant waste stirred up in a flurry

from the broken panes that came

crashing,

now crunching, under hurried feet

scattered around the black tourmaline

floor in my mind.

The gritty, metallic swarm

shreds my vulnerable heart;

Oh, what love

will do to a Romantic.
