My FuneralA Story by Kait
As you walk into the open room you will see seats placed around small tables.
Each table has a 5"x7" stationary index card and a pen. You can write a "good-bye note" or anything you wish. They will all be placed in an envelope and put at the foot of my casket. Music will be playing in the background the whole time. Two types of cake will be served to those who would like some. A double chocolate fudge cake as well as a plain vanilla. I have a feeling I am going to die around spring or summer so the option of ice cream is possible. This all may seem light hearted as well as kind of ignorant for the people attending, but let me explain my reasoning. I do not want a funeral. I want a low key gathering of close friends and family who can reminisce about the time we all had spent together in this realm and talk about the good times of life, rather than remembering the ending departure, which usually makes people distraught. The cake (and possibly ice cream) is soul food, something to make the associate between "gathering" and funeral more differentiated. If I hadn't seen some of my friends or family then the stationary on the tables are for the last words they would like to say to me. If it's possible I would like for it to be held outside on a patio so the natural beauty of the world can be experienced. Plenty of Blue Roses and lovely flowers should be placed around the gathering space. Table decorations such as floating flowers in a bowl of water or something stationary like a candle on a doily. Did I mention I want to be cremated if I die of some illness? If my body was in distress at the end, I want it to be reduced to dust, for laying in the ground after and illness does not 'sit well' with me. If I die of natural causes I would like to be put in a casket and buried where ever I was the happiest in my life. As far as money goes I will figure that out when I actually have some. Possessions mean more to me than money, and they will be given to the people who appreciate the objects that I acquired over my lifetime accordingly. I want what ever writings or paintings to be made into copies and placed around the gathering space as posters, if appropriate for that moment. © 2012 Kait |
