Time Train Romance

Time Train Romance

A Poem by Kait
"

Seeing your long deceased lover at a funeral, would you remember?

"

Eyes agape as my senses swoon,

Watching eagerly as she glided through

The thickness of the cranberry room

Turning her cheek to avoid the view

Our spirits revived from sights anew

While struggling to compose herself, she flew

Between the unfamiliar madness grieving had brewed

And the flickering, dim lights

Placed around the crimson room

My mind squirmed in wonder,

Overwhelmed by this Siren’s splendor

‘I have known her once before’

‘Yes, I know, I have known’, confided the screaming mental war

~~~
Object of my affection,
Residing in 1867;
I was tethered beside thee,
Loving more and more each day
Until Red Death came, bleeding your soul angrily,
Heaven’s merciful angels took you away
Mocking my desperate plea
“Beautiful spirit, please stop soaring, but instead take me.”
This pain is something I cannot bear;
Never feeling your beating heart
Or drinking in your longing stare
~~~

Snap back;

At that moment, I shuttered,

Brainless observing my deceased lover

How could this be?

Many moons have passed me by

Since the night I saw you fly,

On a billowing cloud in divine light.

Drifting over with tranquil pace

I swore; 'Again I will see your face

In a realm less crass than this,

 Awakening thee with a loving kiss,

And wrapping my arms around you in unconditional bliss,

I promise you this.'

~~~
Standing beyond me
Across a vast, crowded room
She waits for me to make the first move
Pulling apart my strengthened heart
I've relentlessly waited for this to start.
As we stand in the space we desired to attain
I meet my modern love,
Although 200 years have waned,
She is just as breathtaking as that fateful day.
Very descriptive and time swooning... well... to wait for so long and just keep losing what you love the most until it begins anew. It paints a haunting yet lovely image especially the Red Death part, it's really breathtaking how you evoked a piece of history then each time brought it closer to modern times. Thanks for sharing:)
I enjoyed this, Kait. Very much actually. It tells a story in a colorful, yet poignant way that throngs with a bell of melancholy, but, somehow, spirit throught the dark, and life, and optimism. You have a slightly optimistic tone that relays your thoughts about the human condition when you write, even though you may not realize it. Very subtle working through the vast folds of your literary pieces- ahem, well- I am planning to read this again to fine-tune my understanding, which has already soaked up the delicious imagery. I listen to music now when I read your piece. I always enjoy the poetic cadence, and certainly the color in your work.
Thank you so much! and btw, I love your username, Poe is absolutely my favorite author. :)
Sometimes we all feel like we were a different person in our past lives. That we were kings, emperors, knights, courtesans, even wolves. Your peom seems to speak of reincarnation. Two lovers meeting again in another life, another era. I'm not quite sure if reincarnation is true. But I think what we believe or are told to believe about reincarnation or about anything, for that matter has no impact on whether or not it is true. The act of believing does not make something true or the world would still be flat. Well if something is true, it is true with or without our approval and concurrence. If it is not true, believing won't make it so.
I like how you skillfully merged the modern type of language and the classical. And shifting from modern time back to 300 years ago and back to modern. Tha sudden shift is almost spotless. Well done!
