Human nature

Human nature

A Poem by Trapped

Is it human nature
To split oneself
Into multiple personalities?
One for friends,
One for work,
One for your lover,
One for people you hate.
Is this why
The answer
To the long lived question
“Who am I?”
Remains unknown?
Is this why
People walk
In circles
In an attempt
To find straight lines?
Is this how
The gears
That have sat
At the core
Of the Earth we walk on
Have begun to rust and break?
Will the world
Soon
Fall
When the gears
That keep everything in motion
Stop?
Can it be
Reversed?
The damage
Of human existence,
Staining every surface
On this beautiful
Place
We were blessed
To land on?
Or is it possible
That after all the years,
The millions,
Billions,
Trillions
Of years,
When we were just atoms
Floating through the void
Before space,
Before time,
Before life itself,
That we made a mistake?
That we,
The smallest atoms,
Stood too close together
And forces pulled us to combine
Into one person,
And than two,
And four,
And 10,
And 100,
And all the way until a race was born.
In the depths of space,
Where we first existed,
Did
We have
Human nature?
Was it as we know it today?
Or was it just a speck
Of light
In the condescending darkness,
Praying
To be
Free?
