The Brave, the Blind, and a Child's Smile

The Brave, the Blind, and a Child's Smile

A Poem by Tracie Skarbo

I write by candle light

Drawing depths of soul upon paper

Awakening excitement

Considering possibilities

Intelligence attracts my wandering eye

Darkness creeps outside this ring of light

And peers into tomorrow

A world I create

Raindrops scatter over that which we can’t change

Only hope to alter

Shallow waters do not impress upon

Those who fail to recognize

Beauty creates and destroys

All who seek;

Changes all who avoid

Perception is the work of fiction

Fantasy tarnishes in the face of sanity

Each is individual

As heat is to flame

The brave ride upon wings of circumstance

As blind seek guidance through

Softer realms of wisdoms shelter

Honesty lies within a child’s smile

Societies unraveling

Those inside look upon prisoners

Of their own creation

Truth hides behind those who claim to see it

A struggling vibrancy that leads the weak

Doubt envelops those who seek solitude

Who listen regardless of fear

Long time no see!

This piece holds so many contemplating perspectives that play on one's mind as we read through flowing with your freshly dipped pen into a fresh sense of ink.

"Honesty lies within a child's smile
Societies unraveling
Those inside look upon prisoners
Of their own creation"

Seems that the innocence of child be the only true expression in a humanity that is consumed by in its self creating its own deception.

Great Write!

You have created a masterpiece.
This probably will not be recognized for
the incredibly deep and thoughtful piece it is
until many of us have read and reread it.
Like many great creations, this will probably be
known widely as it spreads from word to mouth.
Great writing,

"Perception is the work of fiction"

Lady, you and I could be philosphers at a very small table outside of a cafe in Paris. We could talk for hours about that statement, then scribble on paper until our pens run dry.

This piece has all the usual Tracy stylings that make it personal yet exploitative, almost like an essay in verse. well done, and wait for me, I am getting my candle and ink well ready

Very beautiful piece. The words are all about how we see the world each one differently but yet unique. The imagery is really laid out well here. Your wisdom shines through as a light.

Innocence is both a blessing in a curse in that it enhances you imagination but hinders your abilities.

I really loved this part...

Perception is the work of fiction
Fantasy tarnishes in the face of sanity
Each is individual
As heat is to flame

but the whole poem is amazing from beginning to end.

Oh Tracie, there's always peace in your words; and here you add the 'sight' of what is truly there, everywhere .. today's world is full of surface muck, but people like you dive deep beneath it and find what's beautiful.

'.. Truth hides behind those who claim to see it '

and, of course, there is that other candle inside that flickers in your heart...and in the quiet of the private hours, cushioned by the rain, you think on things, and see the ways of beings

Ah, this is fabulously wrought...excellent piece, beautifully written. This line caught my attention, "Perception is the work of fiction"...perhaps it can be...but perception is truth to the mind...regardless of any absolute...if you percieve a thing as good or evil...then, to you...it IS. The politicians, the movers and the shakers, the spin doctors, the propaganda pushers and the news media all know that axiom and they bleed it for every drop. But we should not judge the book by the cover or buy a pig in a poke, take their wooden nickels or listen to their shuck and jive. It takes work to get at the truth usually and a lot of wading through hype and BS to get there sometimes. All that said, I LOVED this! Simply GREAT!
