Break Out

Break Out

A Poem by Tracie Skarbo

How much longer

Can I watch you claw

Into cinderblock

With a plastic knife

And bloodied fist

Searching for cracks

Within the foundation

To spring forth from

Secretly conspiring

Your flight

You and your new found

Comrades

Rebel against the establishment

Thinking yourselves clever

In reality you are only one

Step closer to that which you fear

Ego’s running up steps

Of grandiose illusion

How high and long will you fly

Until your soles forget to ache with

Longing for the feel of the earth

Awwww man.....this was a great social comment and so very true to form. " I think thou doth protest too much" comes to mind and fits in so many different niches. What is it that makes people so fearful that they would subscribe to the vary tactics that they hate so much. You are thinking.....makes great writing for sure. Nice work.

the overall commentary on the the futility of some rebellions is stunning. Clawing at cinder block with plastic knifes.....wow, what a great way to describe someone! This piece has set my mind a whirling with many different narratives that could fall within your lines. Well done!

This sounds very much like a caged animal, perhaps in a zoo, trying to escape the confines of the establishment to me. Perhaps even a trapped cat? It also holds true for us humans, as well. Outstanding, as always.

Sometimes trying to do the right thing we end up doing wrong and the things we fight against become the things we do... it is one of the weaknesses of human nature... the message in this poem is a lesson to all.
