Stark Honesty

Stark Honesty

A Poem by Tracie Skarbo

Who of us wants the stark whiteness
Of honesty
Starring us in the face?

Do we not prefer
Grey overtones of nicety delusion
Softer around the edges
And easier to swallow?

Are compassionate hearts
Any less receptive
Do they in essence
Not withhold the truth of their untruths?

Buried in the guise
Of well meant habit and ritual
Shedding a brighter light
On their own demise

The media
Watching our frenzied dance
Sees the love in our eyes
As we gaze upon the grey shapeless form
Contorting to each of our individualized fantasies…

So powerful to read this, for it speaks volumes to me! I see myself as living in the grey for so long, now that I've broken free the color is awe inspiring and awesome!!

Great piece, going in my fav's!!

Such truth. Wonderful writing. Makes me smile, that someone can think this way and write it with such grace.

A compassionate heart is an honest heart. To be 'dis-illusioned' is "a consummation devoutly to be wished."

Very well written piece. It is so inspiring to see someone tackel the truth of how things tend to be in the world. We do live in sort of a nice delusional state. It is nice to be able to see what is true before us. Excellent job.

WOW Tracy that was so amazing... honesty among loved ones is truly important... but it is not only what you say but how you say it... when delivering news that is unpleasant we need to do it with encouragement and support and not ridicule... and yes there are some who don't even like that, those are the ones in fantasy land who think life is suppose to always be rosy... needless to say your words are very profound and insightful.

Honesty ?

Those who have it may be cursed, or
misunderstood, or killed.
Those who have no honesty are cursed, for
they will be punished in one way or another.

A little bit honest ? Life may be a trade-off.
It may all be grey. Most honesty may be in
our minds.

We try--- that may be the best there is.
