Stark HonestyA Poem by Tracie Skarbo
Who of us wants the stark whiteness
Of honesty
Starring us in the face?
Do we not prefer
Grey overtones of nicety delusion
Softer around the edges
And easier to swallow?
Are compassionate hearts
Any less receptive
Do they in essence
Not withhold the truth of their untruths?
Buried in the guise
Of well meant habit and ritual
Shedding a brighter light
On their own demise
The media
Watching our frenzied dance
Sees the love in our eyes
As we gaze upon the grey shapeless form
Contorting to each of our individualized fantasies…
