Reindeer myths

Reindeer myths

A Story by Trace
"

lets get some things straight here

"

It Has been Said:

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game,

while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year,

male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter,

usually late November to mid-December.

Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give
birth in the spring.

Therefore,

According to every historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer,

every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen- had to be a girl.

Seemingly: a lot of people want to believe that;

Only women; Even being pregnant, would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit,

all around the world in one night and not get lost.

Now,,,,, let's debunk this myth before things get out of hand

It is true that male Reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter,

They have to reduce wind resistance and unnecessary weight while they are flying,

and they cannot fly until they do.

Now remember, When they started showing Santa with the reindeer,

there were no cameras, so they sent artists to paint the reindeer

during the early fall so they could get the prints to market in time for Christmas,

They were going for the aesthetics, with mannerisms rather like the fantasy,

and Antlers just looked better, and helped sell their magazines,

So....... In summation:

The female reindeer obviously keep their antlers

to help protect themselves, while their men are away, (globetrotting as it may be)

as they sit around waiting to give birth,

They cannot chance flying in the expectant condition,

While the male reindeer, sans antlers, are out and about

pulling the little fat man all around the world

delivering the toys to all the good little girls and boys,

Such a cute way to look at the facts, Trace. Sure, a bit chauvinistic, but I enjoyed it. Lydi**
