A Chapter by SIlent Dark

Noises all around me distorted my senses. I planted my hands firmly on the ground and pushed up. There was a crowd of people around me. All around me there was paramedics and police moving towards me. I brought my hands to my head. In my right hand was a gun. I let out an exclamation as I dropped the pistol. I rose to my feet and began running. I pushed through the crowd, away from the cops and took off running. Shouts of shock erupted around me.

As I ran, I turned briefly and didn’t like what I saw. The police had drawn their guns and were pushing through the crowd to catch up to me. I turned forward and ran smack dab into a brick wall. I pulled away from the wall only to get slammed into it once more by the cops with guns. My hands were placed behind my back and cuffed together.

“You’re going in for a long time buddy. Don’t you know it’s illegal to have a weapon in public?” one cop said. He pulled me away from the wall and escorted me to a cruiser. He pushed my head down and shoved me roughly into the vehicle. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can and will be held against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand these rights as they have been read to you?”

“Yes sir I do,” I sighed as the man put me through the paces and read me my Miranda Rights. I sat down in the backseat of the cruiser that the cop forced me into. I tried to remember why I had a gun, why I was on the ground, where I was. Drawing a blank, I looked forward at the cop who brought me to the car. “Hey… Where am I?”

“What the hell do you mean? We’re in Richmond, California,” the cop said, examining me in the rear-view mirror. The cruiser began to move as I was hauled off to the police station of Richmond California. I placed my head on the cruiser’s window and stared at the scenery passing by.
