One of the most awaited religious festivals in India, Rath Yatra in Puri commences on the 18 the July 2015. It takes place according to the dates and times of Hindu calendar.

Once in every year Puri attracts world over tourists with its most renowned Rath yatra in Puri . Lord Jagannath believed to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is worshiped with his siblings, Lord Jagannath and Goddess Subhadra. The Rath Yatra is the process of three lords going to their maternal aunty's house Gundicha temple for nine days. Every Lord visit within their exclusive chariot which are created separately with varied different features. Devotees used to pull the chariots till the next destination as it is a rare chance for them to get this opportunity.

 

Identify Lord Jagannth Chariot in Puri Rath Yatra Festival

Lord Jagannath Chariot has a yellow and red canopy and it is the largest chariot among the three. The chariot is named as Nandighosh. It has 16 wheels, to recognize the chariot you can see the Sudharshan Chakra emblem. The guardian deity of the chariot is Garuda and the charioteer is known as Daruka.The flag on the chariot is known as Trailokyamohini and the rope that is used to pull is known as Shankahchuda. Within the chariot you also find other lords like Hanuman, Rama, Lakshman, Narayan, Krishna, Govardhan Dharana, Chintamani, Raghav and Narasimha.

 

Identify Lord Balabhadra Chariot in Puri Rath Yatra Festival

Lord Balabhadra chariot is identified through red and blue canopy. It is named as Taladhwaja and has 14 wheels. Here the guardian deity is Basudeva and the charioteer is known as Matali. The flag that is hoisted on the chariot is known as Urnani and the rope used to pull is called Basuki.The other deities present in Taladhwaja are Gadantaakari, Harihar, Traimbaka, Vasudeva, Aghora, Pralambari, Natamvara, Tripurasiva and Mritunjaya.

 

Identify Goddess Subhadra Chariot in Puri Rath Yatra Festival

The smallest sister of two lords Goddess Subhadra's chariot can be identify as red and black color topped canopy. The chariot of Subhadra in the Puri Rath Yatra car festival is always placed between the chariots Jagannath and Balabhadra. The chariot is known as Darpadalana and it has 12 wheels. The chariot is also referred as Padmadhwaja.The guardian deity of the chariot is Jayadurga and the charioteer is called Arjuna.The flag on the chariot is known as Nadambika and the rope used to pull is named Swarnachuda.The chariot includes nine other female deities - Chandi, Chamunda, Ugratara, Vanadurga, Shulidurga, Varahi, Shyamakali, Mangala and Vimala.

 

What is special about Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2015

2015 Rath yatra of Puri is named as Nabakalebar Rath Yatra. According to the traditional ritual of Jagannath Temple, the set of idols in the temple needs to be changed after a certain period of time and this ritual is called Nabakalebar. This Nabakalebar ritual is all about the idols are carved out of Neem Wood, there are chances of their decay and that is why the Nabakalebar ritual takes place. There are strict religious instructions about the idol carving ceremony and about the selection of woods to be used for making the idols. After the idols are installed in the temple the ceremony of Nabajoubana Darshan. The last Nabakalebar ceremony of Lord Jagannath was done in 1996.
