Twilight of the Gods

Twilight of the Gods

A Poem by Christopher Hascall
"

Norse legend tells of the end of everything, Ragnarok, as being a great battle between the giants of Jotunheim and the gods of Asgard.

"

One fateful day, the cosmos died

By Loki the Terrible's will

Baldr was slain, Midgard soon fell

Gunnungagap, void and still

The fetters of the disloyal

The Trickster and the Beast

They were no more, as prophesied

Man's honor soon deceased

Doomed Man slaying stranger and kin

for death and chaos reigned

While Wolf consumed the Earthly realm

To Hel went honor and fame

Thor protected those who would dwell

On slain Ymir's flesh and blood

Jormungand and the Hammer fell

and none survived the flood

The Joker soon lay mortally wounded

The conquest of giants proved

To slay the gods on Asgard ground

The base of Yggdrasil moved

King of all things, Odin then fell

Swallowed by fierce Fenrir

Vidar then slayed the mighty wolf

Though, all then disappeared

In void, new land rose from the sea

For world wounds will now mend

The battle halts, rebirth begins

Ragnarok comes to an end
