AddictionA Poem by PaulM2One burn replaces itself with another The burn in my throat gives way to a warm flame in the base of my gut Spreading out and across, its tendrils reaching every part of me they sink in, grab hold, and instantly fade The chill pushes it back out Cold, lonely, unwanted As the last warmth fades back out, too soon Leaving as quickly as it came in, like a cheap lover in a dirty room The tips of my fingers turn blue in the freezing cold One burn replaces itself with another
