Addiction

Addiction

A Poem by PaulM2

One burn replaces itself with another
The burn in my throat gives way to a warm flame in the base of my gut
Spreading out and across, its tendrils reaching every part of me
they sink in, grab hold, and instantly fade
The chill pushes it back out
Cold, lonely, unwanted
As the last warmth fades back out, too soon
Leaving as quickly as it came in, like a cheap lover in a dirty room
The tips of my fingers turn blue in the freezing cold
One burn replaces itself with another

Wonderful depiction of an addiction to alcohol. You describe the effects and feelings quite nicely, better than the normal drinker. It's simple, and it's a great poem for someone who doesn't write poems too often.

I liked this. It made me think of an Hamster on a wheel. Sad but well written.

Just a young aspiring author. I guess that's what I should call myself, frankly I just have a lot of ideas in my head and I felt it was time to try putting some of them into text to see if they were .. more..
