Friends Don't Speak AloudA Poem by Antoñyoanother random thing written just nowStop it, would you, please! Don't look at me that way. With those eyes of yours all soft and pleading as if you needed to be held. I am the friend, not the one. but the one you could never love. I am the safe landing when you decide to leap, not the reason you took to the air. I am the slow song that soothes, makes you want to live one more day. The comforter that warms your bones like the glass of wine when you're alone. I am home. Just home. Not the adventurous places you desire to go. I am the man between the men that make you swoon. I am the neighbor, not the celebrity and it would help if I were gay, but no, you're right in thinking that I could be led on. So please, don't look at me that way. With those eyes of yours all soft and teary. I know you need to be held, but I am tired now, tired of hope. because I am the friend, not the one. The one you could never love. I am here, I am home, and young hearts don't stay home.
