The countdown refers to a local Irish custom of counting between flash of lightning and rumble of thunder. Counting is done each time a flash occurs. If the count is longer than the previous count then the storm is said to be moving away from the 'counter'.

love the theme ..language and simplicity .. what is it that Jesus/God said? we must be as children to enter heaven? ... i think it is not probably a conscous thing but that you start with the mention of the biggest possible imaginable and the form of your poem drops to a very small "..." which i can easily interpret as a path to the very same thing .. that this came to you in a flash ;) is very cool ... how far away was that storm my friend?

Wow I never noticed that and I'm grateful to you for pointing it out my friend. It was not planned.
The storm was on top of us but we always say the storm 'is heralding good weather' and we did get a few days (which is a whole Irish Summer lol).
yes, and those flashes sound loud and light up the sky...
this is so clever.

nice. when i was young, we would say that thunder was him bowling to keep from being scared.
yes - after you see a flash of lightning, count the number of seconds until you hear the thunder. For every 5 seconds the storm is one mile away. this is cute. :)

I love the phrase 'stormy weather'. In Belfast there was once a streetfighter called Stormy Weather and he fought a legendary bare-knuckle fist fight in the street with another 'street fighter' (yes the Irish love to fight !! lol) called Buck Alec, who would walk a Lion instead of a dog.
Thank you Yumna - your selfies are the poetic type.
