Wonderwall

A Poem by Tony Jordan
"

A song I wrote a long time ago for John Lennons anniversary.

"
If you let this man into your heart
You could be free
If you let this man into your soul
You could be free

He asked us to imagine
A world where we we'd be free
From War and Misery ~

But he was cut down in his prime
Before he had the time
To convince us
Of the things we always knew
(but always denied) ~

If you let this man into your heart
You could be free
If you let this man into your soul
You could be free

He asked us to imagine
A world where we we'd be free
From War and Misery ~

But he was cut down in his prime
By a killer who smiled
And our Working Class Hero;
Stolen from you and from me

He asked us to imagine
A world where we we'd be free
From War and Misery ~

If you let this man into your heart
You could be free
If you let this man into your soul
You could be free
If you let this man into your heart
You could be free
If you let this man into your soul
You could be free

*

RIP John

I know Lennon was complex, controversial and even downright bad at times. I'm not looking to argue. I just want to commemorate his passing.

The title made me think of Oasis.....and the fact that Lennon was such an inspiration to them makes this piece of writing very ironic.

It certainly reads like a song. And like you said, Lennon was controversial and a far from perfect role model. Yet he inspired millions with his words, actions and music. And for that he will always be remembered.

It is difficult to imagine these words without a tune. I feel they have enough weight of their own to do the great man justice.

A lovely dedication to a giant of the world.

A fitting tribute to Lennon and a nice touch to pen it lyrically, honestly I could see a band singing this in honor of him. Excellent lines on display and I like that they reference his own messages.

People will always have differing opinions of him, but regardless his words inspire and touch thousands even today. A great piece, thanks for sharing Tony!

Thank you Michael.
A wonderful tribute, Tony.
Am not a Lennon admirer but this piece is certainly admirable.
Do, of course, mourn the death of any senselessly murdered human being.

Thank you Jimmy.
Being complex, controversial, and bad at times, does not make him deplorable, or irredeemable. It makes him human...just like each one of us. That is why his accomplishments, talent, and legacy are so powerful, and so worth remembering. This is a beautiful commemoration. Nicely done!

He is one of those figures you know where you where when you heard. Just like JFK for my generation. I was teaching and the caretaker came into the classroom to tell me.
An inovator and true creative whatever you think of him. This is a fine tribute to a remarkable artist.
