O' summer sun where hath thy gone?

O' summer sun where hath thy gone?

A Poem by Tom

'O summer sun where hath thy gone
your warm caress upon my face,
absence makes heart grow fonder
as pallid skin craves golden rays
imbue countenance with bronze grace

'O summer sun, pray emerge, displace
oppressive, overhead grey clouds,
for ye are worshipped, hailed throughout
every land, presence sought, revered
giver of light and life,'justly avowed

'O summer sun bereft of glowing aura
cornstalks lean low in sodden field,
unripened kernal, destined to decay
save for thy gilded majesty, sweeten
bitter taste, harvest a bounteous yield

'O summer sun, show not undue temperance
be effervescent, brazen, bold and bind,
cast off cloaked veil that shrouds blue sky
so with thy divine, illuminating power
renew the land, uplift hearts of men in kind 🌞

"O summer sun where hath thy gone"? I just love the olde English, Tom. I love this wonderful ode to the missing sunshine. Somebody must have kidnapped the sun. We would willing pay a small ransome to have it back, we are so desperate at the moment. Never seen such a bad month of June before! It's as cold, wet and windy as the month of October! I guess your weather must be something the same? I love how you name out all the various things which benefit from the warmth of the sun and what things won't be available for the coming winter due to the lack of the sunshine also. The never ending bad weather is depressing and you make that point strongly in the ending lines of the poem. Great depiction! Excellent word choice! Only wish the sun could read your poem and chase all the clouds, rain, wind and cold away. What a joy it would be! Exceptional write, Tom. Love it! Thank you for sharing...

Each stanza could stand alone. The imagery you employ is just splendid. Hard for me to imagine the summer sun has morphed into gray clouds. Here in South Florida, the summer sun feels about the same as the autumn sun does! We wear sunscreen every day....or have a payment plan at the dermatologist's office! :) I hope for you the summer sun becomes brazen and pushes those gray clouds out of the way! Great write, Tom. O the Summer Sun is surely yielding to tempered days and drizzle. Except for today. It's 82 and not a cloud to be had.

I had to check if you were in the same country as myself for a minute after reading this, but we are neighbouring countries, if you don't mind a bracing swim being between us 😊
There was just too much that was similarly eerie for it not to be close by and I do long for the sun to be brazen, although it may well have to wait as there was storm warnings for a storm hitting us on Wednesday and you will get the pleasure of being in its path before we are.
Maybe it's time to invest in some sunbed sessions, or top up on vit C at least and keep praying and dreaming the gods of the skylights as I call them, take pity on the lack of sunbeams hitting the ground, what with the often felt permacloud base keeping it at bay.
I wish you well. 😊
