Only love can set you free..

Only love can set you free..

A Poem by Tom

Oh money is money, once ladened my pockets
like surging, salty seawater, overflowing,
like baying hounds trail bugler, fair-weathered
friends plentiful, go where I'm going

Bubble burst, invasive, insurgent insolvency
like melting snow in Spring season thaw,
hedonistic lifestyle, dissipated with moolah
replaced by lone raven's condescending caw

Lowly hearts, hideouts, haven for black dog
it grows strong, gnawing bones of disillusion,
love only can evict squatter, evoke prosperity
money buys not happiness, beware its illusion!

               ( moolah = money )

Such splendid use of words and it takes a little time to realise that there is a poem in between!
What a truly delightful read this is! And my totally agreement with you that money really cannot buy happiness.
Well done from me dear and a very pleasant weekend ahead 😊

Goodmorning Tom!

So good to see a new post and this one about money is right up my alley because I'm a spendthrift and though I earn comfortably, I spend most of it and am too generous with it and so often running short!

I loved your description of money overflowing as salty seawater. Most would have described it as honey or something sweet, even ambrosia but those who are wise would know that is not always the case. So this was unique! Also, fair weather friends described as hounds. Just great.

When the bubble bursts and money melts away as snow, these hounds dissappear in their woods leaving one alone with only crows for company. Loved the lone raven's condescending caw and it made laugh out loud. Such disillusionment sets in!

So if there is nothing left, we take up a begging bowl and if there are a few pennies to spare, we turn to Black Dog. It helps us realize the final, ultimate bitter truth. Money cannot buy happiness. Indeed, it cannot compare with steady, solid relationships.

Personally, I feel it's our attitude to money that counts. Handling it is an art. Too clingy and it becomes unpleasant, too loose and it lands one in hardships.

A very timely poem, Tom as I have not read any lately on the subject. I loved the well crafted verses, the wry humor and the wisdom behind it. A great package all in all. And the chosen pic is just right!

It was such a pleasure Tom. Always happy when you post a new poem. 😊💥
Many people worship money instead of God; they spend their whole life pursuing it, neglecting all else that is more important in life. They miss out on lots of things like relationships, trips, time with family, lover and so much more.
Money is a good servant, but a bad master.
Nothing wrong with having money or being rich; it is what we do with it.
An awesome poem Tom. Different from your others...
