A fellowship poem to see us safely into the New Year and onwards..
Though the well may be dry
no need to sadly sigh
and wither on the vine
For the challenge of life
in comfort or in strife
is to walk the righteous line
The spoils of decadence
soon rapidly condense
viewed through, discerning eye
If consumed by wanton greed
a heart cannot bleed
when little children cry
The corrupt and morally unshaven
seek sanctuary or haven
behind walls of ill-repute
But a house is not a home
if built on tainted loam
and will bear forth, rancid fruit
So take a leaf from the good book
don’t grapple on the hook
of avarice or imposition
For if the soul is pure
it is written de facto, de jure
your cup will overflow, through wise volition 😇
Wonderful words of wisdom shared with your reader in this sublimely penned poem, dear Tom. Excellent use of metaphor and various figures of speech as you ink you poem in visual detail and play with words in the most poetic way. There is only one way to live one's life and that is with Light and Love as we help each other along our path in life. We need to listen to the cries of little children and older people who need our help so badly, listen to the poor, the downtrodden, the rejected, the black sheep in society and we need to help them get back into a world where they can live in joy and peace again, but so many are caught up in materialism and greed, that hope is fading of any change in the near future, not even sure if such a day will ever dawn when we will all co-operate with love for each other, stand beside each other and help each other, asking NOTHING in return, Tom. THANK YOU! for sharing this v-e-r-y insightful and wonderful poem which shows the way to the future, if we have eyes to see it... Lovely work, dear Tom...

Words of wisdom here in this beautifully penned poem. I followed Cassie of the smiling face here Tom, and was delighted to have found such a gem of a poem. Loved the read. All good wishes.
In a time when only money is equated to success and happiness, this poem brings me much comfort and assurance that walking the straight path will lead to intangible rewards. The poem is replete with wisdom yet my favorite lines would be...
But a house is not a home
if built on tainted loam
and will bear forth, rancid fruit
The rhyming in every verse is so appreciated too...
Thanks for the lovely message and reminder Tom!

And as ever, thank you my friend for your welcome visit and beautifully worded review!
So very true. Classic, lyrical poem with lovely form, cadence, rhyme, imagery and metaphor use. "Walk The righteous line"- yes. If not, what hope have we? "The corrupt and morally unshaven"-stunning. Love this excellent work!
