Bury me by the Dogwood tree !

Bury me by the Dogwood tree !

A Poem by Tom
"

Spring has finally sprung and though I have no intention of departing....one never knows the minute !

"
Bury me not, by yew or ivy green
nor neath a slab, cold and grey
but by the dogwood tree serene
if my love, I am called away!

And when it brightly blooms in Spring
think of me with heart unblighted,
for I await where angels sing
till once more, we are united!

I am of the opinion that death, especially when it comes in old/older age, is a natural event to be expected & accepted & even celebrated. This feels like a celebration song & I especially love the way it incorporates a way for the buried person to continue speaking to the alive loved one thru blooms and other seasonal changes. I'm all for planting trees in memoriam (or in this case, being buried under a favorite tree), so our loves live on.

This brought a few tears to my eyes. This is very beautiful and written with so much love. It is my wish to be buried next to a tree. We have designated areas for that very reason here. Thank you for sharing, Tom.

To buried in such a way and become part of nature, would be so much more preferable to that 'cold grey slab.'

Lovely lines. Beccy.

Thank you Beccy and yes, you got it !!
Wow! New concept for Tom. lol. I am used to your Cricket and animal- inspired poems. But one thing in common is there's always a lesson in your poem, even it is as simple and short as this.

I believe in eternal love.

Amazing in two verses!

You are so welcome Tom! ~Sharon
Oh...this is just so beautiful Tom. In these lines I find a promise of eternal life and a hope that love never dies. Especially endearing as I too have always tell my little son to not put me away in a cold, distant cemetry but under a tree in his own backyard where he could come and speak to me every evening. Oh I loved this poem Tom!

And surely the dogwood tree will seem to bloom more brightly for knowing you are there.
