Johnston.. David Trent !

Johnston.. David Trent !

A Poem by Tom
"

Sorry it's cricket again, think I must be suffering withdrawal symptoms !

"

Pardon me if I may, no need to hasten away, pull up a chair sit down and stay

switch off that mobile, forget facebook, twitter so we can communally chitter,

I'll make a brew one lump or two? Then I'll tell you about a fine Irish cricketer,

so as you're now sitting cordially content, permit me to wax lyrical and verbally vent!

Strong the allure of any Irish tour so many thrilling matches, seldom demure

And just as worthy as any before, this current Irish team were top drawer

the vintage of March 2013, U. A. E. the venue and opposing team

though always the perfect gent ,one particular Irish player, the opposition he did torment!

First match up, the Inter-Continental cup, Ireland's batsmen all ran amok

a first innings score, now etched in folklore, a glorious feat in desert like heat

589 amassed the total score, easily surpassed the 578 of before

And for him 250 career wickets came and went, despite thankless wickets of cement?

Next match a world qualifying game, top of the table determined to remain

Ireland bowled out the Emirates for 165, and then their batsman did thrive

knocking off the runs with overs in store, but who bowled Ali out for 4?

His post match figures 6-28-1 the extent, of an inspired performance, magnificent!

With little time for respite, the second world cup qualifier, neath Sharjar's sun bright

the Emirate's improved their bating, but who again caught them napping?

The M.O.M. with 9-2-25-4 unsurpassed, like 'Billy the Kid' lightening fast

his bowling so passionately fervent, without faltering reprieve, remorse or relent!

At the final T20, he watched with the crowd, his team victorious and proud

in automatic transmission, Ireland, easily completing the mission,

so  Australia 2015 when we come,  Mr Lillee, Warne McGrath, and Thompson

bow with one knee bent, when you hear of the name, Johnston.. David Trent!

I think you should apply to the Irish Cricket Team as their official balladeer, Tom! You could receive a small remuneration and world-wide renown for your very fine poetry. Why not give it a try? It's certainly worth a letter to the Team Manager.

Great work, my friend. You make writing entertainingly about a sports team seem easy, which it is not!

LOL. Crikcet again. And you're a good fan, huh! You made this tribute for that man.

Another fine poetry with such exceptional rhyming. Reading the poem makes someone like he also watched the whole game. You completely described even the moves. LOL

Sounds like you are quite the fan. How much longer before Cricket season begins for you? You might be having withdrawals. It's nice to see someone have so much passion about anything these days. I have no hobbies that fuel me as much as cricket seems to fuel you. It's wonderful.

This resounds your love for the team and Ireland. Nice way to tell your story and convey it to others.
I know nothing about the game, so relating to this --I am handicapped--however, I love soccer and watching my daughters play it.

I know almost nothing about cricket - except what you have shared - but I do know this is an outstanding poem. Your descriptions are great, word usage outstanding and your love of cricket is evident in your well written words. I enjoyed reading this very much!

Nice to hear from you ice'blue & thanks for your welcome visit!
You are a cricket fan from your nose to your toes and I actually have heard of Trent Johnston....but I never knew his frist name was David? I know he was born in Australia and plays for the Irish team. He is quite the player. I am sure he will end up coaching after he feels he is too old to play. For a 40 year old, he is amazing! Great rhyming! Thank you for such an informative write about your favorite pastime, Tom. It’s a tribute any sportsman would be proud of. Lydi**
