Just Walk !

Just Walk !

A Poem by Tom
"

I can't get this game out of my system? Another poem about cricket and this time as you'll see, honesty is always the best policy !

"

Pastor Pete was fond of a treat

    when visiting his congregation,

a cup of tea with something sweet

   before each biblical recitation!

Tommy O’Toole liked his beer cool

   along with a double chaser,

prone at times to act the fool

locally known as the village spacer!

  Surprisingly sharing a common theme

  both enjoyed playing cricket,

opening batsmen on the same team

 fastidious when at the wicket!

Playing together for the last time

in a now notorious match,

Tommy nicked one very fine

and the keeper took a straightforward catch!

But before the mandatory appeal

he did not stand there and balk,

about turn, right wheel

then set off for the long walk!

The Pastor then suffered a similar fate

feathering a minute edge,

but chose to remain and remonstrate

aware the ball had hit the wedge!

With both umpires rather uncertain

he hung on like an overzealous actor,

who refuses to withdraw behind the curtain

as you may have seen on the X factor!

Thus he escaped due to a howler

and his foibles most underhand,

but this so angered the bowler

his next ball knocked Pastor Pete, into the promised land!

Now should you edge one through to the keeper

please don’t stand there and gawp,

as it could be you are facing the grim-reaper

so if I were you I’d just walk!

Not sure I enjoy the tone of this... but OK... it is an honest expression of your mindset.
I think here on the WC I like to play the Tee Ball game where everyone gets a hit and nobody keeps score.
IMO...
Maybe I took this wrong. If so, I extend my apologies. It did read well as a poem though. You gave it some cheeky humor as well.

Poor Pastor Pete!
I'm sure I don't know enough about Cricket to completely understand this witty poem...but I do know enough about honesty and fair play....evidently, more than the pastor did anyhow...

Nice poem, Tom!!

Thank you so much TL !
An amusing story. Nicely rhymed. I must admit I only know a bit about cricket and I may have to brush up on its terms to fully appreciate the humor in this one. Suffice it to say my sympathies do go out to Pastor Pete and his family. : )

Honesty is always the best policy icelandicblue !
I quite enjoy a good game of cricket. I must say I'm very keen on the pairing of the Pastor and the local drunkard. It makes it all the more interesting. And, the flow of this poem was very seamless. Very good read! I really enjoyed it. xx

You are most welcome.
A very amusing tale, with a message! Your rhythm goes astray in places, but perhaps that was intentional.I enjoyed this poem, although I thought it was a bit hard on Pastor Pete!
