My dog can't...

My dog can't...

A Poem by Tom
"

All dogs are unique & amazing!

"

My dog can’t fetch a ball, like the able retriever

in throw, chase and return, he is not a firm believer

My dog can’t round-up and herd, like the competent collie

for he told me once that chasing sheep, was the height of pure folly

My dog can’t growl and bark aloud, like a german shepherd

he’s more of a stealth prowler, as is a stalking leopard

My dog can’t smell the fox, superbly like the hound

he prefers to let his canine brother, remain safe below the ground

My dog can’t scare a prowler, like the powerful rottweiler

but I know he would try his best, despite being a tiny fella

My dog can’t wear the mascot's cloak, like the wolfhound Irish

he prefers to stay at home, content within his own parish

My dog can’t see acutely, like the graceful, roaming afghan

but when the sausages are cooking, he keeps a firm eye on the pan

My dog can’t make himself look tough, like the British bull dog

then he was not bred to bring down bovine, or ill-tempered hog

My dog can’t do the above tasks as well, like the breeds I’ve named above

For he’s just a little shih-tzu but his heart for me is full of Love!

I love this beautiful tribute to your beloved dog, Tom. Truly, we choose our dogs not for what they can or cannot do, or for party trick to amuse us or others, but for the love they will lavish on us, for their loyalty, their friendship and their beautiful spirit within. Adorable inking, dear Tom. Thank you so very much for sharing it. I so enjoyed reading! Hope you will soon return with some new poems. I am looking forward very much to reading them, dear friend...

Thank you kindly Beccy !
Hahaha quite hilarious and endearing! I love dogs so much and I can see here perfectly well that although there are lots of things your dog can't do, you still love him. This is an interesting piece, Tom. I sure like it a lot. :)

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....so sweet....no dog lover could dislike this piece. Flowy and catchy, I believe mentally I read it in a sing-song voice. It's nice to see some light-hearted poetry

He's doing more than enough to earn his keep, Tom, and I'm sure you agree. I really enjoyed your poem. Your dog is worth his weight in gold.

What a truly genuine love poem LOL To think it only took a coffee break to come up with. No matter the size, your dogs give you the most important thing, his heart full of love. So incredibly sweet.

You've caught the drift Dye and thank you for commenting!
Brought a grin to my face. What he/she lacks in size etc. makes up for just being itself that is a shih-tzu

Merci much Pryde
Very cute, just like a shih-tzu...like how you pen'd other breeds and their signatures into this one too.
