The Earthworm

A tribute to the earthworm

The earthworm is a friend to all

believe me I tell you true,

it cultivates the soil and with it, 

someday we surely shall imbue!

 

So if you ever pass one, on top stony ground

stop and help it on its way,

gently pick it up then set it down again,

upon a softer type of clay!

Then take a step back carefully 
watching where your feet doth trod
and be thankful you are still upright,

on the green side of the sod!

A kindred spirit! I always save worms, even though certain members of my family have picked on me for it. (They also can't understand why I'm such a girly-girl about most bugs & things of that sort, but I've no problem with saying hello to a friendly little worm and placing him back on the soil if the need arises). This poem is so much fun!

I just found out recently that earthworms are used for producing compost.... :o)

I liked this poem.... cleverly structured and great use of diction, rhyme and meter.... funny too.. !

Yeah, best not trod on the sod... we wouldn't want them to become endangered species.. as they do wonders for our natural habitat.
