The Devils October

The Devils October

A Poem by Tompson Cristene
"

a poem for more mature audiences about an abusive relationship and overcoming the effects

"
I still can't sit in the back seat
my feet have to stay on the dash
pressed agents a window I realize October never belonged to the devil until you owned it
watching as you shed your human skin hands become paws
sprout paws as you devour me
I've seen this all before now the moment is fleeting
you didn't enjoy this kind of screaming
you weren't ever a creature of the night
no no you took advantage of the comfort I found in daylight
I can't say this isn't who you used to be
because its who you've always been
once fooled by my own smoke and mirrors
I've never seen clearer than I do right now.
the devil owns not just the night
but the daylight
the devil owns the back seat
the devil may October
but the devil does not own you.

This is a powerful cautionary tale. However, I don't understand the next to last line.
