Abel, Cain, PaulA Poem by TomiIn the beginning we were like Abel Able to do the right things Then our nails were full of flesh From scratching the backs of our every foe Then, we became Cain Jealous, stubborn, stormy: Hurricane We rolled off mountains like the avalanche And had conversations with the rich man: Lazarus We begged for a drop of water, perhaps some oxygen We danced with werewolves and vampires As twilight became our only hope Our roses withered and the thorns blossomed Our desires became king; lust and endless want We lived everyday dying Innocence was gold: our hearts were cold Our tears were red; our sweats, cold Molten in our veins, hell in our eyes We were lost; we were finished Alas! We are like Paul Free from ourselves, free indeed; redeemed
