Crystabel and Elf - Part 6A Poem by Tom BensonElfmac has a showdown with the Black Sprites
Elf hummed in steady tone, expression almost solemn. The stream rose 'round his stone, in a massive liquid column.
All Black Sprites lifted high, wings useless in the gush. Lifted up towards the sky, in the foaming, gurgling rush.
From the banks the fairies stared, not one could understand. For Elfmac they all cared, but couldn't lend a hand.
Suddenly it stopped, the water column fell. To earth the Black Sprites dropped, not drowned, but not too well.
'This is nae idle threat,' Elf said and looked around, 'this time yer sore and wet, next time, nae mercy found … '
'These fairies live in peace, each one tae me a friend. Be gone now, use release, yer wicked ways to mend.'
Their wings were tattered threads, the Black Sprites couldn't fly. Some bruises on their heads, and one was heard to cry:
'Wild creatures now could prey, upon us tiny creatures, so in undergrowth we'll stay, hidden in woodland features.'
Elfmac left the stone, and flew o'er to the bank. 'At least yer not alone, ye've got yerselves tae thank.'
From trees and by the stream, fairies were appearing. The girls thought Elf a dream, and all the boys were cheering.
Crystabel flew down, to be by Elfmac's side. 'My prince without a crown, you fill me with such pride.'
A tremble in her voice, wingbeats causing air whorls. 'Now you have your choice, of all the pretty girls.'
Elfmac glanced at Crystabel, then at all the pretty faces. 'Who'd have thought it,' he said, 'well, thoughts of leaving this erases ...'
