Crystabel and Elf - Part 5A Poem by Tom BensonA storm is brewing in the woods ...
Strong gusts hit the clearing, the warm Spring day turned cold. Crys' said, ' I think they're nearing … our enemies of old.'
Elfmac heard the cries, of his new found friends. He questioned in surprise, 'The peace and calmness ends... ?'
'Crystabel pray tell, whit is the cause o' this, whit darkness has befell, yer' peaceful woodland bliss?'
'Black Sprites can cause the breeze, and temperatures to change. Their evil's done with ease, they turn invisible, they're strange.'
Elf said, 'A'hm nae sa sure, exactly wit ye' mean. Surely sprites are pure … on you they wouldna' lean.'
Crys' said, 'Black Sprites are evil, and not like all the rest. Using curses and upheaval, putting peaceful folk to test.'
Elfmac looked around, as fairies tried to hide. 'Tae help a'hm duty bound, this treatment a'h'll nae bide.'
'Crys' ma dear get hidden, an' all yer friends as well. Go on, dae ma' biddin', a'h'll chat tae sprites frae Hell.'
Elfmac stood alone, his clenched fists on his hips. In mid stream on a stone, a smile played on his lips.
'Cum doon an' take me on!' he screamed into the air, 'or as cowards have ye' gone, or pretendin' yer' no there?'
The gusts of wind abated, and calmness came again. Elfmac stood and waited, 'This type,' he said, 'ah ken …'
'Appear! Cum show yerself!' Elfmac cried aloud. 'A'hm jist a simple elf, on ma own … nae crowd …'
Slowly they appeared, many tiny sprites in black. Encircling Elf they neared, preparing to attack …
'Ah dinnae' take too kind, tae a black 'n' evil sprite. Here the colour of change ye'll find, is purity … and boyz that's white!'
