Crystabel and Elf - Part 2

Crystabel and Elf - Part 2

A Poem by Tom Benson
"

The recent acquaintances are getting on well ...

"

Flowers blooming everywhere,

in the Spring time sun.

A feel of freshness in the air,

made Crystabel want fun.

'You're handsome for an elf,'

Crystabel surmised.

From his soft red petal shelf.

Elfmac looked surprised.

Speechless Elfmac stood,

grinning ear to pointed ear.

Her compliment was good,

and sounded so sincere.

'You're obviously courageous,'

the fairy whispered next.

'That call to fight outrageous,

great Hades you'll have vexed.'

'Och a'm sorry,' Elfmac said,

trying to calm down.

'A'm fair sad in the head,'

then he wore a frown.

'It's Spring time,' then said Crys',

caressing Elfmac's wings.

'A season not to miss,

sun, blue skies, new born things ...'

'Why don't you try to smile,

my new found Scottish friend?

In this weather, it's the style,

go on try it, 'least pretend.'

'A'm no usually sae gruff,'

Elfmac sounded low.

'But ma' kinfolk had it rough,

thro' Winter time ye' know.'

'Snow storms ripped oor trees,

gales tore oor woods apart.

Low temperatures that freeze,

wee folk tae the heart …'

'It wiz Hadeez sure enuff,

sendin' winds frae Hell.

Damagin' trees and stuff,

an' floodin' us as well …'

Crystabel repaired,

as Elfmac's tale he told.

'Let's see how your wings faired,

I think my work should hold.'

Elf hovered for a while,

then flew around fresh flowers.

'Ye've fixed me up in style,

a cood fly wi' these fur hours.'

'A'm grateful tae ye' lassie,

noo fresh Spring winds a' seek.

Braw sunshine aye it's classy,

but gettin' hame will take a week.'

Chrys' then touched Elf's arm,

'Why not stay through Spring?

It wouldn't do you harm,

to strengthen that left wing.'

'We've nectar here, each flavour,

and lots of things to eat.

I've friends that you might favour,

some pretty ones to meet …'

'How long does Spring last here?'

Elfmac finally queried.

'Yer air tastes fresh and clear,

an' a dae feel kind o' wearied …'

Crystabel was smiling,

'Spring lasts for many weeks.'

Her features were beguiling,

improved by blushing cheeks.

'Okay, ah'll stay a while,'

Elfmac then agreed.

Then he tried a smile,

'Perhaps it's what a' need …'

Tom,

Superb continuation, great descriptors and plot setting. How very inspiring to have the lovely Crytabel show hospitality and a veiled promise of romance to the ailing Elfmac after a long, cold and debilitating winter. He makes the same choice all us ailing guys would to such a lovely creature who offers nectors and food and maybe more.

Looking forward to the next chapter! BZ
